Skincare Resolutions – Tips for happier, healthier new year skin

Every year, many of us make a list of our New Year’s resolutions – or promises we make to ourselves – for the ensuing year. Whether it’s exercising more, eating more healthily or trying a new skill, the aim is to make life better. But how to make your skin better? It deserves some love in this new year too! Here, we share our top skincare resolutions which are easy to keep going, well into 2023. These skincare changes are easy to implement into your daily skincare routine and won’t take up much of your day – but they will make a huge difference long-term

1. Remove your make-up at night.

It's so tempting to skip this step if you're tired but leaving make-up on can block the pores causing breakouts and preventing the skin from renewing itself overnight.  Use Skin Renew Cleanser with our Reusable Bamboo Cleansing Pads to sweep away impurities, melt away makeup and refine and hydrate the skin.

2. Exfoliate Regularly

There are so many benefits to exfoliation. As we age our skin turnover slows down, exfoliating the dead skin cells away reveals a smooth, more even skin tone. Our Kale Enzymatic Exfoliator contains pomegranate enzymes and jojoba beads to gently exfoliate without scratching, revealing smoother, healthier skin.

3. Add Vitamin C into your skincare routine

Consuming a diet of vitamin-rich foods and using vitamin powered skincare helps to optimise the health of both your body and your skin. But did you know that vitamin c is 30-40% more effective when applied topically to your skin?. Vitamin c helps to rejuvenate the skin by reversing free radical damage caused by the sun and pollution. A powerful antioxidant which helps protect collagen, brighten the skin, as well as being anti-inflammatory

Argan Skin Rescue contains oil soluble vitamin C to repair stressed skin, enhance natural collagen and strengthen the skin barrier to provide protection from further damage

4. Wear a sunscreen daily

Even when it is grey and cloudy outside, the damaging UVA and UVB rays can penetrate clouds and glass so its important to wear a sunscreen all year round. The health of your skin is important Applying sunscreen daily will protect it from damage which can lead to premature ageing and other problems like wrinkles and age spots. As we get older our skin becomes thinner and less elastic, so it's even more important than ever to protect your skin from damaging UV rays. Our Skin Protecting Daily Moisturiser SPF25 is an all year round daily moisturiser with SPF25.  Natural mineral non nano sun filter zinc oxide delivers broad spectrum protection against damaging UVA/UVB rays.  It also contains a powerful blend of antioxidants and anti-ageing actives including Argan, Kale, Pumpkin seed oil and Turmeric which nourish and firms the skin and protect against daily environmental pollution.  Whats more its reef safe, dermatologically tested as suitable for sensitive skin and paediatrician approved.

5. Try a new product

January is the perfect month for new beginnings. If you’ve been using the same skincare routine for years, you might want to make a shift this month and try something new like our Ceramide Moisture Boost Essence. This lightweight essence  delivers the perfect layer of moisture after cleansing and toning to soften and prepare the skin for the next steps of your skincare routine.

6. Stick to a routine that works for you

Remember products take time to work; its important to adapt your routine as the seasons change and as your skin changes, but once you’ve found a routine that works for you, keep at it -  if you start skipping between different products it will make it difficult to understand what worked and what didn’t work. And once the treatment is working don’t stop it as the problem will just come back.

7. Don’t forget your body

Along with your facial skin, you need regularly moisturise your body too. Our top tip is to apply a moisturiser straight after your shower when your skin is still damp. When applied immediately after a bath or shower, the product is able to trap some of the water still on your body and use it to hydrate your skin. We have a range of beautiful body creams to suit all skin and fragrance preferences including our brand new Bergamot & Cardamom Smoothing Body Cream and Geranium & Jasmine Contouring Body Cream.

8. Drink plenty of water

Our skin is the largest organ in our body and needs a lot of water to function at its best. Drinking plenty of water will keep the body, skin and lips hydrated and flush out toxins for healthier-looking skin, problem-free skin.

9. Remember your beauty sleep!

An easy and effective way to improve how we feel about ourselves and the appearance of the skin is with a good night’s sleep. How much sleep we need varies between individuals, but 8 hours is a good target.  Quality is just as important as quantity. If getting to sleep is difficult, try journaling to get all those buzzing thoughts down on paper, some simple yoga moves to stretch out any stresses of the day, and deep breathing exercises

Minimising screen time before bed will help with an over-stimulated brain, while calming music and soothing aromas, such as those in our Sleepy Pillow Mist, can help you to unwind and drift off naturally. To help you stay asleep, try ear plugs and black out curtains to reduce disturbances.

If this all seems rather overwhelming, don't try them all at once, gradually introduce one at a time and don't worry if you don't keep them all going after January.  Some will suit your lifestyle, others won't, so pick a couple that you think will be easy to incorporate and chop and change if you need to.  If you're still going with 2 or 3 of these tips into February, you're doing well!
